Recession? What Recession!

The Man Who Sold Hot DogsThere was a man who lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs. He was hard of hearing so he had no radio. He had trouble with his eyes so he read no newspapers…but he sold good hot dogs. He put up his signs on the highway telling how good they were. He stood by the side of the road and cried, “Buy a hot dog, Mister?” and the people bought. He increased his meat and bun orders. He bought a bigger stove to take care of his trade. He finally got his son home from college to help him out, but then something happened. His son said, “Father haven’t you been listening to the radio? Haven’t you been reading the newspapers? There is a big depression. The Mid East situation is terrible; the domestic situation is worse.” Where-upon the father thought, “Well, my son has been to college, he reads the papers, he listens to the radio, and he ought to know.” So the father cut down on his meat orders, took down his advertising signs, and he no longer bothered to stand out on the highway to sell his hot dogs. His hot dog sales fell almost overnight. “You’re right son, ‘ the father said to the boy. “We certainly are in the middle of a great depression.”
THINK IT OVER!
Would you say it is attitude? Point of view? Political affiliation? Whatever it might be, the economy is still strong. Sure the housing market is down, but that does not mean we are doomed! I had an interesting conversation the other day with a commercial contractor. He told me that his is booked for the year and he is already starting to turn down jobs. He told me that businesses are still expanding and looking for opportunities to grow. With the low interest rates around the country, busniesses are going forward with optimism. Here at Metalmart, we have no choice but to do the same-go forward with optimism. The domestic steel mills are at 90% capacity and a lot of our customers are busy, busy, busy. Amongst the “whirlwind” of price increases in the steel industry, Metalmart does not see “recession” - we see growth for our customers. To better serve your, our inventory levels are high, your prices are still extremely competitive, and we are continually looking for “deals” in the market to save you money. As our loyal customers, you will continue to receive market updates as fast as we get them. Please feel free to call with any questions. But now more than ever, when you bid out jobs, please build in a “price increase” clause into your bids. This will ensure your success and will allow you to continue to make a profit. Thanks for your trust and loyalty. You are very appreciated.
